The Castro district in San Francisco borders upscale Noe Valley to the South, and hipster Mission District to the East. Castro apartments are relatively close to San Francisco's downtown, but also far enough away to have its own unique atmosphere. The Castro, as it is known by local residents, is accessible by the F Market MUNI line and various other local buses. There are no underground MUNI or BART lines that stop in The Castro, however.

The Castro Theatre is still one of the main landmarks in The Castro, and there you will find many indie and artsy films, as well occasional mainstream movies. The Castro is also known for its street fairs, including the city's longest running street fair founded by Harvey Milk himself, as well as the Pride Parade and SF International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.

Apartments for rent in the Castro are plentiful, but residents are lucky if they can snatch a gorgeous Victorian style home. Apartments are expensive, like San Francisco at large, but less expensive than areas such as Union Square.
